Dear readers,

-Bonjour, peux-tu te présenter aux lecteurs ? Hello, could you introduce yourself ?

Hello, Yannick, some of you may know me under the nickname RetroBasket37 on Twitter and creator of the page “ASPO Tours/Tours BC, la petite histoire du basket tourangeau” on Facebook, 42 years old (logistics employee) and I live in La Riche ( near Tours in Indre-et-Loire).

-Depuis quand collectionnes-tu et comment es-tu tombé dans le hobby ? How long are you collecting ? How do you start collecting ?

I started very early, in the 90s by starting a lot on the LNB at the start, NBA a little bit later (question of means at the time), I stopped for a long time while keeping these precious little ones but unfortunately following a fire in my apartment in 2010, everything burned down. Then, for a long time to get back to it and for 2 years thanks to certain contacts via social networks and the internet, I got back to it and even more than before.

-Te souviens-tu de ta toute première carte ? Laquelle était-ce ? Do you remember your first card ? Which one was it ?

OfficialBasketballcards’ 1994 Tours BC for the LNB and M.Jordan’s Fleer 92-93 for the NBA

What kind of sports, what kind of cards or collections are you looking for ?

NBA (the old ones, before 1980) and franchise cards too for a while, also liking the NHL, I started buying some. Very happy when I got my 1st Joe Sakic back in the Nordiques jersey, being rocked by Canal Plus, lots of memories come to mind with all that.

What’s your most beautiful card in your collection ?

An Upperdeck with signature offered by a contact after an order. MJ and KB, but those are my favorites in general, Rick Barry’s Panini Prizm looks great too.

-Quel est ton prochain achat ? What’s your next purchase ?

I believe that I will continue to recover Upperdeck from 94-95 then continuing to tell the history of Tourangeau basketball and having had the chance to find some of former basketball players who played in Tours, when I was able to recover that of Cliff Pondexter and Wilbur Holland 2 players who marked Touraine basketball and under the Bulls jersey (my heart franchise), I was like a kid so I am currently in this perspective, I would like to find that of Kevin Strickland under the jersey of Duke and that of Earl Cureton and of course Carl Nicks.

-Quel est ton budget mensuel ? What’s your monthly budget ?

It depends on my favorites, because I don’t buy anything and everything, I don’t collect just to collect, it really has to “match”, for example, I’m more often going to buy individually than in batch, so to answer your question, I never put more than 40€.

-Quelle est la carte de tes rêves ? What’s your dream’s card ?

Well, despite having a lot of Michael Jordan cards, I would like to have a GameWorm of my childhood idol.

-Quel(s) conseil(s) donnerais-tu à un débutant ? Aurais-tu un bon plan à lui donner ? Have you an advice to a beginner ? Have you a good hobby plan ?

Take a good look and above all be well informed, visit salons if possible beforehand so as not to buy a MJ card almost 100€ for example (I have seen some) or those who get you out of Victor Wenbyanama at 300 anyway , I think that like all collections, it must be done intelligently. After my good plans can be summed up mainly on Twitter, or on Ebay or Le Bon coin but I search a lot, @allstarshop26 on twitter has very nice collections, more than a third comes from him.

Do you participate in shows or events on the cards?

No, not yet unfortunately, being from Tours, the distance is long in some places and in Tours, there are never “meetings” organized for that or even for basketball for that matter ☹️

-Quelle est ta vision du hobby actuellement ?  What’s your actual hobby’s vision ?

For me the hobby is a sharing of his passion, allowing a whole group of people who are totally different socially to be able to exchange, discuss, meet, this reconnection with the world of cards has allowed me to be able to dialogue with super nice people and I hope to finally attend a dedicated show to share these moments of conviviality.

So, maybe as I only perceive it through Twitter, I find that there is a good development in France, even very important between the organized fairs, the networks, the dedicated sites, it’s a very good start , the must, the ideal would be simply to have European shows, but is it the same “mentality” across each country, not sure for example that in Germany, Belgium, Italy there is as much enthusiasm.

Otherwise to finish, I do have an anecdote, Mickael Gelabale came to Tours to play with Châlon-sur-Soâne, so I obviously knew it, I hasten to buy to get him to sign, I order it, I have had my photo with M.Gelabale but the card… 1 week after he came, I was jaded.
